When Cory came to Wichita, Kansas, in 2001, he worked for KAKE-10, where, during his time, he experienced his first Kansas supercell thunderstorm come marching across the plains. After he saw the supercell thunderstorm, he immediately hooked up on severe weather and storm chasing. Then, in 2004, he provided coverage of his first four hurricanes: Frances, Ivan, Charley, and Jeanne. After that, in 2005, he also covered the Hurricanes Dennis, Ophelia, Rita, Katrina, and Wilma.
During his time working in Florida at WFTV-9, Cory made a decision to strengthen and improve his weather knowledge by receiving his Bachelor of Science in Geoscience after attending Mississippi State’s distance learning program in 2010. After he received his Bachelor’s, he decided to quit his photography work and began focusing on forecasting and reporting on the weather as a meteorologist.
Besides that, Cory also worked for WFTV in Orlando, where he worked as their meteorologist for over a decade, and he covered 14 hurricanes and 4 other named tropical storms.
